"We have been cooperating with StarForce for four years already. We made use of the StarForce services when issuing the ‘Voprosy psychologii’ CDs for 15 and 20-year periods, and the ‘Medicines made out of plants’ CD."

The main principle of a product functioning is based on the fact that protection functionality is bound to a local network server where the protected application is installed and activated with a single license. This single license specifies the manner the protected application can be used – the number of simultaneously running copies of the protected product, the time scope of the application, etc. During startup a client application connects to the server requesting permission to start.

Products protected with SF Corporative can be distributed either on optical discs or via the Internet, or both. In any case, activation of a protected product is required before it can be used (activation can be executed via Internet, phone, fax or SMS). Using this approach to program protection appoints a system administrator responsible for program installation and activation, relieving end user of this.

SF Corporative supports the following distribution and protected software usage models:

  1. disc-to-activation
The software is distributed on discs but the software work is performed from end user's computer hard drive. In that case the discs aren’t the software storage only but the distribution instrument – to launch software it is necessary to activate it. So end-users can transfer disc with protected software to each other, but application will start to work only after buying license for it and its activation, before this the application can be accessible in trial mode.

Also additional protection of software is available: part of the software (installation pack) will be bound to storage. Additional protection consists in that software from disc can be installed to computer only one time. This protects software from the further distribution.

This variant is suitable for box versions distributed via retail and e-shops (as points of sales).

  2. download-to-activation
This variant is suitable for software distribution via Internet. Users get software by downloading it on computer. In that case SF Corporative provides obligatory software activation on end user's computer.

2 levels of protection are available – Basic and Pro.
Available license models – buy only (Basic); try&buy, rent, subscription (Pro).

SF Corporative advantages and features:

  • Features crack-proof protection of corporate applications.
Protection is bound to a local network server where the protected application with an appropriate license is installed. The license specifies limitations of the application usage. Client application periodically connects to the server to request certain data to determine whether it should proceed functioning.

  • Allows to specify the period of use and the maximum possible number of client copies simultaneously running properties (defined by customer).

  • Simple and quick way of applying protection to an application - buying and installing the SF Corporative can be done directly from customer office via the Internet.

  • The same protection is usable both in a single-use and a corporate modes..
When a protected product is used by a single user the protection binds to the computer on which the protected product is installed. When the same product is used in a corporate environment the protection binds to network server. The manner in which the protection will run is specified in the product installer.

  • Centralized management of protected application’s work when used in local corporate networks

  • DRM support
    • Possibility to manage serial numbers and obtain their usage statistics reports
    • Possibility to control of a product usage and distribution
    • Possibility to define and redefine features and limitations of the product depending on a selling scheme

  • Ability to change distribution policy of an already released protected product (change certain protection parameters for certain customers, change protection binding from single-user to corporate mode and vice versa, etc.)

  • Ability to install several copies of a protected product on the same server

  • No additional hardware or software utilities are required to protect or work with a protected product (for instance, eToken)

  • Extra marketing potentials
It is possible to set a limit onto the maximum number of simultaneously running copies of a protected application within a corporate network. In this case, organization buys a single license prescribing the number of simultaneously running copies. Exceeding the maximum number of running copies of a protected application leads to the situation when new end users willing to start a new copy of the application have to wait until an already running copy is closed.

  • No end user attention to installation and activation of a protected product is required. It is system administrator who is meant to install and activate a protected product.

  • Deactivation of a licensed program by the end user
The end user is enabled to transfer the protected program from one computer onto another via deactivating and further activating the program with the same serial number. This applies also to the case when the end user reinstalls OS or modifies computer hardware configuration. This ensures the end user feels comfortable using the protected program.
