FrontLine Universal implements a one-off protection method enabling to bind protected software to optical disks and computer hardware at the same time. However, disk authentication and hardware verification do not happen on application launch by default. Software publishers can choose a preferred binding method as part of the software or disk protection process.

Even when a publisher plans to distribute software using a single medium (such as optical discs) there is a possibility that other distribution opportunities may come in handy. This is especially true of online distribution and involves extra costs associated with tailoring software release packages to new distribution channels. Original application files must be stored and resorted to in order to assign new distribution rights, protect the files with a different binding method, build and secure new distribution packages etc. FrontLine Universal simplifies this tedious process by enabling the publisher to create a new application installer that changes binding types in the operating system registry, or create and distribute a REG file for the same purpose.
