Optical media protection from copying and unauthorized use
For retail distribution
Protected software is bound to the original optical disc topology and can’t be launched from replicated or emulated CD/DVD-R discs. The following protection options can be used depending on the number of disc copies and replication method:
CD/DVD protection – a disc key is required to activate the distributed software. The protection system matches the disc key entered by a user to physical parameters of the protected installation disc. Protected discs can be replicated without additional equipment at any facility.
Keyless CD/DVD protection – No disc key is required to activate the distributed software. Upon launching the software the protection system authenticates the disc automatically, no further user actions are required. Protected discs can be replicated without additional equipment at StarForce certified plants only.
CD-R/DVD-R protection – best suited to software distributed in small batches (up to 1000 discs).This method implements dedicated CD-R or DVD-R media developed by StarForce engineers. No disc key is required to activate the distributed software. Upon launching the software the protection system authenticates the disc automatically. Protected discs can be burned using any disc replication equipment or even a household CD/DVD recorder.
