Video file protection and distribution

Two file protection methods are available: bind-to-disk and bind-to-hardware.

Bind-to-disk:

This type of binding makes it possible to securely distribute, transfer and sell your video content on optical media of your choice (CD/DVD/CD-R/DVD-R disks). Protected video content can be viewed only from a disk inserted into a computer optical drive. This enables disk authentication and ensures protection from unauthorized distribution.

With this option, disk authentication is required for first-time and subsequent viewing of the video file. Authentication can be implemented using either Keyless or Non-Keyless technology based on selected protection settings.

Bind-to-hardware:

This type of binding is suited to protecting video content distributed on any physical media as well as online. Non-Keyless video file activation is required for first-time viewing. Activation can be performed online, by mobile texting, phone or email. The activation process binds the video file to computer hardware forcing the user to view it on one machine only.

With this option, users can transfer protected video files to other computers for viewing. However, transferred video files will not play unless they are reactivated. Reactivation involves purchasing a new serial number for the existing video file. This process ensures authorized use of distributed video content and at the same time turns optical media into a secondary distribution channel.

Video file requirements:

FrontLine Video can protect all types of stream video files, compressed and uncompressed, in AVI, MPG, WMV and other file formats. A video file intended for bind-to-disk protection should not exceed 2 Gb in size, whereas a file intended for bind-to-hardware protection should not be larger than 3.5 Gb. Files exceeding the above requirements must be split into several files of required size. In this case video player settings must be changed to enable continuous playback of multiple files, or to create an on-screen menu allowing viewers to select video files for continuous playback.

The supplied StarForce Video Player doesn’t include codecs required for video playback. Therefore it is assumed that required codecs are installed on a user’s computer prior to viewing.
