Windows Vista release version is 6.0.6000.
The efficiency of protection on previous builds of Windows Vista is not guaranteed; the release should be installed.
Protection with the later version number is definitely better than previous versions.
You can find out your protection version on the Protection library properties version tab (protect.dll by default). The final version of the product protection is the protection version of the latest update.
Protection using drivers is only considered here. Protection without drivers has no restrictions on compatibility with OS and platform versions (32/64-bit).
The latest version of the driver update utility is available on the StarForce website at any time.

| 3.04.062 – 3.07 |
These versions will work with Windows Vista after the driver update.
Drivers with Windows Vista support are already included in protection starting with the following protection system versions: 3.04.079, 3.05.012, 3.06.013, 3.07.019.
Driver installation
These protection versions usually cannot install drivers for Windows Vista. This is because of the new UAP technology (User Account Protection) in Windows Vista. They cannot do it ‘usually’ because Windows Vista identifies some protected applications as out-of-date and launch them with the rights of administrator.
If this is not the case and the protected application cannot install drivers always asking for the administrator rights, at the least it is necessary to launch the application once with the rights of administrator. This can be done in one of the two ways:
- Right-click the shortcut of the protected application and select “Run as administrator”.
- Go to Properties in the application shortcut and tick off the “Run with administrator privileges” field in the “Compatibility” tab.

|
| 4.00.000 – 4.00.013 | In most cases the protected applications work with Windows Vista without the driver update. Normal support of driver installation for Windows Vista.
Driver installation
There were some problems with a file system driver for Windows Vista, as well as with the driver digital signature for Windows Vista x64. Therefore, if a protected application does not work with Windows Vista, drivers should be updated. |
|
| 4.00.013 and later | Full Windows Vista support without any problems. |
64-bit OS support (Windows XP x64, Windows Server 2003 x64, Windows Vista x64).
| Protection versions | |
| Older than 3.05 |
These versions will never be able to work with 64-bit OS.
StarForce offers FREE re-protection for all the developers and publishers of the programs that utilize version below 5.50 to release the appropriate patches. Please contact us at sales@star-force.com for re-protection and further details.*

| 3.05 and later | These versions support working with 64-bit OS with the corresponding restrictions in case of Windows Vista x64 (described above). |
Driver update for Windows Vista x64 (64-bit)
Windows Vista x64 requires that all the drivers have the digital signature. If any driver does not have a digital signature, Windows Vista x64 is not loaded until the driver is removed.
Of course, the old protection driver versions without Windows Vista support did not have the digital signature. Therefore, launching the old protection versions for Windows Vista x64 should be performed as follows.
- Launch the protected application with the rights of administrator.
- Allow driver installation
- Reject reboot (otherwise the OS will not load in Normal mode)
- Update drivers
- Reboot the OS.
