Security expert StarForce provides new solution to protect email attachments

29.10.2012

StarForce Technologies is a leading vendor of copy protection, licensing and code obfuscation solutions against software, electronic documents and audio/video files copying, cracking and illegal distribution has created a ground-breaking solution to help protect documents containing confidential and sensitive information which are attached to email messages.

StarForce E-mail is designed to make it much harder for cyber criminals and hackers to gain unauthorised access to important data and information which currently is at risk of being copied, modified, shared and used illegally.

The new security product offers companies and organisations of all sizes and in all sectors the opportunity to protect and control the use of their confidential information included in email attachments. It allows only the intended recipient to view the document attached to the message and prevents unauthorised access and information leaks.

Electronic documents sent by companies using StarForce E-mail are automatically protected and no special measures are required by staff sending emails and information within or outside their organisation.

An attachment opened on the recipient’s computer, pc, tablet or mobile device cannot be opened on any other computer or mobile device. This provides a high level of protection and prevents unauthorised access and viewing of information within email attachments.

It also provides a tracking facility which allows senders to see who sees the information as well as when and where it is accessed.

StarForce E-mail protected attachments are activated the first time they are read by the intended recipient. This is done by using a serial number (a combination of Latin letters and figures) which is entered into a special field when the document is first opened.

Customers do not need separate email accounts or take special measures to view the protected documents – they can be sent to and opened in any email address. All that is required is a special viewer, provided free by StarForce.

The StarForce email protection offers several important benefits including:

  • protection of email attachments with a single click
  • a high level of protection against ‘cracking’
  • compatibility with all mainline corporate email software and systems
  • statistics which show how often attachments are viewed.

Server components can be installed within companies’ own corporate network or at StarForce Technologies. These include an encryption server and an activation and usage statistics server.

Julia Titova, StarForce business development director, says the new protection is a significant breakthrough in deterring hackers and other lawbreakers from gaining unauthorised access to figures, data and other confidential material sent by email.

“It is really important. Having researched the market it is clear there is an urgent need for greater protection on email attachments. This will be extremely useful for companies of every size and description as well as state authorities who all want more security for confidential data and information sent in email documents and attachments.

“This will provide them with greater confidence and reassurance that their confidential information will not be viewed by unauthorised third parties or fall easily into the wrong hands.

“Until now there has been little control or protection for information sent or distributed by email. Now clients have the ideal tool to minimise the risks of commercial, marketing and financial information being leaked by email.

“I have no doubt that this breakthrough product will be welcomed by every organisation which is eager to strengthen its information security, particularly those looking to reduce the risks of electronically transmitting sensitive and confidential information.”

StarForce E-mail can be used as a single product or as part of a company application for information security and control. It has been produced following discussions with IRM, DLP and IPS vendors and system integrators.
