StarForce expands its software protection with the introduction of StarForce ProActive, designed to provide publishers with much sought after activation technology as an alternative to a CD- or DVD-based distribution system.

15.03.2004

StarForce Technologies, a respected provider of software security solutions for physical media (CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, CD-R), now enriches its product range with the addition of StarForce ProActive, a hardware-locked activation and licensing management system.

Gerhard Papst, StarForce CEO and Managing Director, comments: Our team of engineers have worked hard to develop our most innovative and versatile product to date. With StarForce ProActive we bring the same respected encryption strength of StarForce Professional to our customers, but now with the option for the customer to distribute their product a variety of ways. It is a win-win scenario."

Though business software and professional applications are still widely distributed on physical media such as CD-ROM and DVD-ROM, publishers very often see it as a disadvantage to require the disc to be in the drive at runtime. Other applications are expected to be installable on disc or file servers for larger groups of users in one company or at one location. Furthermore, an increasing number of applications are distributed through purchase and download via the Internet, yet need to be secured. To serve such additional demands of our business software partners, we have developed StarForce ProActive, a Serial Number based hardware binding technology.

StarForce ProActive provides licensing control for a broad range of applications. It enables software publishers to continue to distribute their content on physical media or via the Internet and their website, and allows them to control use of their applications and their licenses sold without requiring a disc to be present in the end users' drive, or a dongle to be connected to the clients' PCs or servers. Additionally, it can be combined with most of our well-proven encryption- and disc-binding solutions.

"A key rule for any developer and publisher should be to never allow a test, beta, pre-release or evaluation version to leave their desks unprotected or else risk later the fast hacks and cracks which will surely follow. Using StarForce ProActive from the very beginning of the development stage will help make this a very achievable task." noted CEO Papst.

The Usability Management Technology built into StarForce ProActive incorporates a set of strong and flexible tools to easily parameterize the use of the protected titles throughout their life cycles, giving the option to design and control anyone's use of your product.
