Gazprom Neft Selects StarForce Solution for Intellectual Property Protection

12.11.2014

Gazprom Neft, a Russian vertically integrated oil company engaged primarily in oil & gas exploration and production (E&P), the sale and distribution of crude oil, and the production and sale of petroleum products, has selected a StarForce solution to protect educational programs that are distributed among the company’s employees. StarForce Disc is specially designed to protect multimedia software, educational and entertainment software, planned for distribution on optical media against a wide range of threats.

The StarForce Disc protection system includes binding a protected application to optical media (disc), which eliminates the possibility to create a working copy of the program and prevents its unauthorized distribution. There are two options to validate a disc: constant disc check, which requires an original disc in the drive every time a protected application is launching on a personal computer and periodic disc check, where a protected application can work without an original disc in the drive during a certain time, set by a copyright holder. More than 65 million people worldwide use StarForce Disc.

"Many of the world's largest companies have their own divisions, departments, and often subsidiaries that are engaged in qualification upgrades and training for employees. As part of the training courses, often hard copy teaching materials are used, as well as applications on optical discs. Such applications must be protected against copying to prevent the possibility of leakage of confidential data that can be used for the development of software," says Natalia Yashenkova, Head of Marketing and PR at StarForce Technologies. "Our security system allows to prevent unauthorized copying of software as well as data. At the same time, a protected disc can be safely used outside the perimeter of the company's information system."
